Four Dances Recreation Area
If you’re looking for an easy hike with breathtaking views, the Four Dances Recreation Area is a great place to start. This 3-mile out-and-back trail offers a moderate elevation gain and overlooks the Yellowstone River. Whether you’re hiking or enjoying a leisurely walk, you’ll find numerous lookouts to stop and take in the scenery. It's the perfect hike for anyone seeking a peaceful experience without too much of a challenge.
Skyline Trail
Opened in 2023, the Skyline Trail is a paved, multi-use trail that runs along the iconic Rimrocks. Offering a smooth and accessible path, this 7-mile trail connects with Swords Rimrocks Park, giving you an even longer stretch to explore. Whether you’re running, biking, or walking, this trail is ideal for catching breathtaking views of the Billings skyline and the distant mountain ranges like the Beartooth, Pryor, and Bighorn Mountains. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone looking for an easy-going trail with panoramic vistas.
Riverfront Park
For those who prefer to stay closer to town while still enjoying nature, Riverfront Park offers a peaceful, easy-going trail along the Yellowstone River. The 4-mile loop takes you past Lake Josephine, providing a great spot to enjoy a picnic or watch local wildlife. It’s a fantastic option for families or those looking for a scenic stroll. Bring your coffee from Rock Creek, and enjoy a leisurely walk by the water.
Two Moon Park
Another beautiful option is the Two Moon Park trail. This 1.9-mile loop is also dog-friendly, so it’s a great spot to bring your furry friend. The trail is relatively flat and runs along the Yellowstone River, making it a quick and easy option for a jog or hike. It’s close to town, but you’ll still feel like you’ve escaped into nature.
Swords Rimrock Park
For stunning views just outside of downtown Billings, Swords Rimrock Park is an excellent choice. The 60-acre park features a nearly 4-mile paved trail along the Rimrocks. It's a short hike but packed with rewarding views of the city and surrounding landscapes. Whether you're visiting for the first time or you're a local who hasn't been in a while, this trail is a must-see for anyone in the area.
Zimmerman Park
For those who want to turn up the challenge a bit, Zimmerman Park is an intermediate-level trail located just west of Swords Rimrock Park. With rockier terrain and sharper turns, Zimmerman is perfect for hikers and mountain bikers looking to take it up a notch. The trail offers both upper and lower routes, giving you options depending on how adventurous you’re feeling. The views from the Rimrocks are spectacular, making the effort worthwhile.
