Costa Rica Santa Elena

This is our best-selling coffee.

A medium roast, you’ll experience a crisp, clean taste of citrus followed by a smooth, buttery finish.

This bright coffee has a light sweetness with an elegance that even the most sophisticated palette will enjoy.

The Washed Tarrazú beans are harvested from the single estate of Santa Elena in the famous, growing region of the highlands of Costa Rica, Tarrazú, between November and February.

After growing in the shade, works handpick the(cherries) beans and meticulously sort them by quality-level. Then, the beans are naturally washed and processed via a pulped, natural honey process and dried in the sun on a patio at the mill. Additionally, the beans rest in parchment for a minimum of 30 days after drying before milling and shipping.

Costa Rica is known for commercially producing and shipping coffee to the United States since around 1860. Production has diminished in recent years due to the population increase and a focus on making money in real estate versus the coffee industry.

However, individual farmers who own small estates, or “micro-mills,” are creating a new generation of coffee that is in high-demand. They use small drying milling-modules and have full control over the entire process from growing and harvesting to packaging and shipping.

The Santa Elena Estate growers follow a holistic, sustainable approach and use a water-treatment system that meets the country’s high environmental standards.

Then, the beans are exported as a Strictly Hard Bean, or SHB. This means that the coffee has been grown at a specific altitude of 1250-150 meters above sea level (MASL), giving it a denser and higher-quality rating that the Hard Bean (HB) classification. Genetic varieties include Caturra and Typica.

Enjoy a delicious, rich cup of coffee (that goes great with a salmon dinner or a desert like beignets, by the way) with Costa Rica Santa Elena. And with every sip, know that you support an environmentally friendly process and a small community of farmers and their families.
